The Witcher hexing factories

October 18, 2007

It was 2003 when Poland-based CD Projekt’s internal Red Studio announced their first project, The Witcher. In the intermittent years, the action role-playing game based on Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s eponymous short story has been shown on numerous occasions. However, it wasn’t until Atari picked up the distribution rights first in Europe, and then in North America, that the game’s actual release seemed to be drawing near.

It’s magic.

Today, Atari announced that development on The Witcher has finally wrapped. The game will begin working its magic on PCs in North America on October 30 and in Europe on October 26. Assuming the role of Geralt, a superhuman hero who possess uncanny sword-fighting and magical abilities, players can explore the world envisioned by Sapkowski while following a storyline rife with modern-day implications and issues.

Rated M for Mature, The Witcher will retail for $49.99.

The Co-Op Collection will be available for Xbox 360 owners in “late October to early November.”

IGN gives PES 2008 a 9.2/10

October 18, 2007

Ign have reviewed PES 2008. They say its a blissfully familiar experience that will leave you wondering whether you\’ve slipped the old version in the drive. However the game has move forward, with better more responsive controls providing greater close control. The Ai has also improved with players that make more intelligent runs and work together as a team more proficiently. The opposition learns and adapts to the way individuals play the game, without it spoiling the game and you having to change your tatics every match. Keepers have also improved and are more likely to palm the ball behind for a corner rather than knock it back out into the six-yard box. There seem to be few negatives apart from the frame-rate dropping when the screen gets really busy (like a clearance when there are many players in the box) but they say you won’t really notice or care.

Get a Blu-ray excusive overseas on HD DVD

October 18, 2007

The Wall Street Journal has reported on how many people are buying Blu-Ray-Only Titles from abroad in Region-Free HD DVD. Many titles from Sony, Fox and Disney that are Blu-ray exclusives in the US are available in HD DVD in other countries. Since HD DVD is region-free, you can order discs on sites like amazon.co.uk and Xploited Cinema. However if importing a blu-ray title consumers must be sure they are buying from a region that works with U.S. players (U.S. is in the same region as almost all of the Americas and Southeast Asia.). Gizmodo also mention that some some horror movies are available in Xploited Cinema in \”region free\” Blu-ray anyway.

Okami Confirmed for the Wii

October 18, 2007

The highly unique PlayStation 2 title Okami will see new life as a title for the Wii console. Boasting a beautiful visual style and a ‘drawing’ game mechanic that would seem to presage the Wii’s motion control, it will almost certainly fit in well with the Wii’s existing stable of games. Eurogamer also note that “the game lends itself rather well to the potential of Nintendo’s Wiimote for control. Amaterasu’s Celestial Brush - a paintbrush used in combat and for solving puzzles - is a perfect fit for the Wiimote, and so it proves, while combat will also include various “motion-controlled physical attacks”.”.
