Nvidia Buys Ageia to Boost Gaming Performance (NewsFactor)

NewsFactor - Nvidia is acquiring gaming-technology developer Ageia Technologies under undisclosed terms. Ageia says its PhysX hardware and software are currently featured in more than 140 games for the Sony Playstation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii platforms as well as specialized computers from Dell and other PC vendors.

PES 2008 to be released March 28th in Europe

Konami announced today that PES 2008 for Wii is due for release on March 28th. They have also released 12 screens which shed more light on how the game makes use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. They says that the level of control offered by the bespoke Wii system elevates PES 2008 far beyond any other football game.

EA: We need to do better on the Nintendo platforms

EA Sports President Peter Moore has said that EA need to do better on the Nintendo platforms and that they intend to do just that. He revealed that they are planing to release more casual games on Nintendo platforms such as upcoming boxing game FaceBreaker.

EA and Spielberg announce Boom Blox

EA announced that BOOM BLOX, the first game developed in collaboration between EA and Steven Spielberg, is set for a May 2008 release for Nintendo Wii. The game is a family orientated block based puzzle game with more than 300 levels, a cast of more than thirty wacky characters, and an easy-to-use in-game editor that allows players to express their creativity. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has tried to offer an explanation as to why the Wii remains so popular. Much of the Wii\’s popularity, he attributes to bundling Wii sports with the hardwae and essentially making people stuck with the game. But Nintendo\’s theory was that if people played it and found more than expected enjoyment, then this fun and enjoyment would spread to people around them.

The game was awarded a perfect 10 with the journalist declaring it\’s not just amazing, but it is one of the very best games from Nintendo. He concludes that rarely has any game delivered such intense action and so many hours of value, it simply doesn\’t get any better than this.

Moore: Think of Facebreaker as Ready 2 Rumble boxing, more casual games coming

Speaking to IGN, former Xbox chief and now head of EA Sports Peter Moore has commented that EA\’s upcoming boxing game should be thought of on par with Ready 2 Rumble boxing. Elsewhere, Moore revealed there will be more new games coming up aimed at the casual consumer and EA need to do better on Nintendo platforms.

No silver PS3 for N. America?

SCEA have said that there are no plans for a silver PS3 in North America at this time. Earlier this week Sony Japan announced that a new Silver Satin 40GB PS3 model & Silver Satin dualshock controller will be available in Japan on March 6.

Credit rating agency upgrades Sony as PS3 recovers

Fitch Ratings, an international credit rating agency, upgraded Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp. today. Fitch improved the rating due to improved core electronics operations and a turnaround in its game business. They also noted that Sony\’s Blu-ray format had gained the upper hand in the next-gen format war with HD-DVD.
