Macworld.com - Toshiba’s decision to axe production of HD DVD drives is bound to have some effect on the consumer electronics industry, and one of the casualties will be Microsoft’s external HD-DVD player add-on for its Xbox 360 video game console. Microsoft offered a reassurance to consumers and analysts in a carefully worded statement.

Loads of new Mario Kart Wii screens have emerged as well as information on the characters, tracks and online play. Some of the newly revealed information includes - Mii\’s will be spectators, D.K has a new go kart, Motor bikes will be available in online play and Koopa Troop will be a playable character.

Thanks to advancements in the Wii homebrew scene, DesktopMan has posted Tetris to the Wii which can be run in native Wii mode. This makes it the second native Wii homebrew game to be released. Full information is available at auby.no.

The latest UK game sales charts reveal that Mario & Sonic at the Olympics has managed to keep up its impressive run and remains on top of the charts. Devil May Cry 4 enters at number two and despite a poor reception by the gaming media, Turok sits at number three no doubt due to a hefty marketing campaign.

Capcom has released some screens for Okami. The game is expected for release in the US on March 25, 2008, Japan in Q2 2008 and Europe on March 28, 2008.

SEGA Europe today confirmed the name of the forthcoming Sonic RPG adventure, as being Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. Developed by industry admired and RPG specialists, Bioware, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood will appear on the DS during 2008.

John Hight tried to explain why PSN hasn\’t been swamped with games recently. Hight began by saying that Sony is very careful about what they add to the catalog, they didn\’t wish to create a needle in the haystick situation in which there was just a few games hidden amongst thousands of poor ones. Through this approach it is believed they will create special experiences each and every time.

U.S. shares of Sony Corp. rose to a session high of $47.07 in early trade on the New York Stock Exchange before easing down to $46.30, up $1.52, or 3.4 percent from the Friday close. The rise comes after optimism about sales of the PS3 and Blu-ray players after the news that Toshiba had pulled out of the high def race. One analyst told his clients that he expects \”Blu-ray\’s victory could drive market share gains for the PS3, as we believe consumers will now be more willing to pay up (versus Xbox 360) for the standard Blu-ray player.\”
