PlayStation 3 Update Will Bring Interactive Blu-ray (NewsFactor)

NewsFactor - Sony on Thursday said the next firmware update for the PlayStation 3 video-game console will add Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0. The update is due out late this month. Known as BD-Live, the update will offer PS3 players interactive features, such asdownloadable video content, ringtones and games. Beyond BD-Live, the update will make room for photo and music playlists on PS3 to be copied to a PSP handheld device.

Gibson sues MTV, EA over “Guitar Hero” (Reuters)

Reuters - Gibson Guitar said on Friday that it filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Viacom Inc’s MTV networks and Harmonix as well as Electronic Arts relating to the wildly popular “Guitar Hero” video games.

Website \’thatvideogameblog\’ has posted up a list of third party Wii games that have sold over a million units. The games are as follows 1) Mario & Sonic Olympics, 2) Guitar Hero III, 3) Resident Evil 4, 4) Rayman Raving Rabbids, 5) Carnival Games, 6) Sonic and the Secret Rings, and 7) Red Steel. Games on their way to becomg million copy sellers are Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Lego Star Wars and MySims.

Datel’s FreeLoader for Wii still working despite firmware update

Gamers over at the Wii-Centric forums have confirmed that Datel\’s newly released Free Loader for the Wii is still working despite a minor firmware update yesterday which added support for the WiiWare channel. We guess as long as Nintendo doesn\’t get too \’annoyed\’ by this product, then they won\’t go out of their way to block it. This product is available to buy from Divineo.co.uk and Divineo.cn.

Nintendo gets behind Pro Evo 2008 with launch of official site

Nintendo has thrown up the official website for Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on the Wii. The website is pretty Flash intensive, with some screens and tutorials and all the rest of the usual website related goodies. It\’s available to view in all its glory at Nintendo-Europe.com, with the goal machine that is Cristiano Ronaldo fronting things.

Amazon.com has begun taking pr-orders on Guitar Hero: On Tour with the game priced at $49.99. They speculate that the release date for the game is June 22, 2008.

We have been informed by the owner of Divineo (SE) that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue PAL has v2.16 firmware on it - a firmware which wasn\’t released by Sony as they went straight to v2.17. Obviously there is no idea what is different about this specific firmware but perhaps there are some holes or so, who knows?

Some good quality images of the special limited edition Metal Gear Solid 4 sterl PS3 have been revealed. The 40 gb console will be included in the Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots bundle which will retail for 51,800 yen. The special editions of the MGS4 game only will retail for 9,800 yen and the normal edition 8,800 yen.

U.S. government investigates Blu-ray Patent after infringement allegations

The U.S International Trade Commission (ITC) has voted to start an investigation in to \”certain short-wavelength light emitting diodes, laser diodes, and products containing these components such as Blu-ray players.\” The investigation is based on a complaint filed by Gertrude Neumark Rothschild of Hartsdale and alleges that the products infringe one of its patents. Thirty companies were listed as respondents, Gertrude Neumark Rothschild are requesting that the ITC issue exclusion orders and cease and desist orders.
