British sprinter shocked by calories burned in Wii Fit

British sprinter Sabina Astarita recently tested out Wii Fit for a national newspaper and said she was shocked to find that the jogging game burns almost as many calories as a gym treadmill. Sabina said she would definitely buy the Wii but that she won\’t be using it for training as it doesn\’t get her heart rate up enough. Interestingly, Wii Fit was found to burn nearly as many calories as many gym activities, however the personal trainer that monitored Sabina said \”I\’m surprised some of the Wii exercises burn so many calories but they don\’t raise the heart rate as much as the rowing machine or treadmill, so you\’re not really working your heart as hard.\”

Recently ELSPA issued a press release regarding a bust that happened in the Leicestershire regarding a \’Wii chipping factory\’. As part of the press release they had some comments from a Nintendo insider who said a Chipped Wii is useless as the likes of Mario Kart won\’t even work. Moreover, there is a saying in their office which goes along the lines of \’chip it and you brick it\’.

According to reports, Mario Kart Wii is suffering from the same disc read errors that were seen with Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The problem is apparently with the game being on a dual-layer disc and a dirty lens in the Wii. Nintendo will of course clean consoles with dirty lenses for its customers and it is believed this will solve the problem as it did with Smash Bros.

PS Store down most of tomorrow for PS Store update

Opinion: Volition is still taking the fight to Rockstar

According to a preview of Saints Row 2 by Future Publishing, \”Volition is still taking the fight to Rockstar\” and from what they\’ve seen of the game, \”no one\’s going to be scoring an early knockout punch either.\” They say that Saints Row 2 has many unique features that GTA IV does not have such as customizable cribs, gestures and character appearances. However the most important feature that Saints Row 2 has over GTA IV is the fully online co-op campaign which will allow you and a pal to complete the game together. They have also said that there is a new and improved aiming control system in Saints Row 2.

UK Xbox Live boss: more than 100 films on Xbox Live by July

Robin Burrowes, Microsoft\’s Xbox Live product manager for the UK and Ireland, last week said that there’ll be more than 100 films on Xbox Live by July, including modern films like No Country For Old Men and I Am Legend. He also revealed that many new films will be available on Xbox Live the same day they come out on DVD. Burrowes concluded that in the future, the UK and Ireland can expect Live to have “More films, including back catalogue stuff, more games on Xbox Live Arcade, more music videos and more social networking.”
