May 6, 2008

InfoWorld - Ah, youth. Ready to take on the world, today’s generation of dynamic, tech-immersed youngsters have grown up alongside the Internet. Firsthand, and sometimes single-handedly, they have advanced some of today’s hottest technology trends, from peer-to-peer networking, to massively multiplayer online games, to social networks and instant messaging. And along the way, a small, sociopathic number of them have behaved very, very badly.

Opinion: Blu-ray has 3 problems, DRM infections, BD-J and greed

May 6, 2008

An article at The Inquirer has criticized Blu-ray saying that it has 3 problems: DRM infections, BD-J and greed. They say Sony are greedy for increasing Blu-ray player prices 50-100 percent after the end of the format war and ask who would buy a $29.99 BD movie when the DVD version is $16.99. They say every Blu-ray disc is DRM infected and prevents \”legitimate users from using legally purchased media on legally purchased hardware\” and makes \”Piracy the Better Choice.\” They also say that BD-J support is \”so half-assed and broken that using it is nothing less than misery.\” (thanks daps83777)

Prototype pushed to 2009

May 6, 2008

Sometimes prototypes don’t work quite as well as envisioned. Sometimes they just need a bit more work before they’re ready for production.

A representative with Sierra Entertainment today confirmed that to be the case with the company’s upcoming open-world action game Prototype. Originally set for release on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC this fall, the game has been bumped to a nonspecific 2009 release date.

“Since its announcement, Prototype has been regarded by many as groundbreaking and taking the open-world genre in new directions, and in the simplest explanation possible, we need more time to deliver the game the team initially set out to create,” the representative said.

Developed by Radical Entertainment (the studio behind The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Scarface: The World is Yours), Prototype casts players as a genetically altered shape-shifter tearing a path of destruction through New York City. Along the way, gamers try to discover who they are and what’s behind their mutations, all while fighting off an assortment of military and mutant adversaries.
